Rosatom together with the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry is working on technical solutions in the area of closed-loop economy, BelTA learned from Andrei Lebedev, director for the realization of state and industry-specific programs in the sphere of ecology of the Russian state nuclear industry corporation Rosatom, during the international specialized expo Ecology Expo 2023.

Andrei Lebedev remarked: “Ecology Expo 2023 is a sought-after international event. Rosatom's delegation interacts fruitfully with Belarusian colleagues today. In addition to our main clean product – nuclear energy – we develop an entire range of ecological areas, in particular, wind energy, electric motion, programs on ecological monitoring and waste management. Apart from that, it is worth noting that Belarusian colleagues have helped develop a concept, according to which the CIS states will be able to handle hazardous and extremely hazardous waste much better.”

In his words, in 2022-2023 Belarusian delegations repeatedly visited Russia to participate in various forums and events. The specialist also mentioned the importance of interaction between countries and of promotion of cooperation, which will produce a positive effect.

Speaking about waste management, Andrei Lebedev assured that they had developed a large number of reference solutions during work with the ecological legacy. “We work with such unique facilities as Krasny Bor [a dumping ground for toxic industrial waste in Russia's Leningrad Oblast], the Baikal pulp and paper factory, and other ones. This is why some reference solutions and sometimes unique solutions can be used during work with other legacy facilities, including Belarusian ones. Today together with the relevant Belarusian ministry we are looking into these matters as well as the technological and ecological solutions in the area of the closed-loop economy, which may be in demand in the territory of your country,” he summarized.

The international environmental exhibition and forum Ecology Expo 2023 is the largest congress and exhibition event in Belarus in the field of environmental protection, environmental equipment, technologies and services in 2023. The event is designed to consolidate the efforts of all interested parties - government bodies, academic and business communities, experts, public associations and the general public - to solve environmental problems. The forum also seeks to encourage more people to join the environmental movement. An exhibition and a business program, plenary discussions, roundtable sessions, business meetings will be held on the sidelines of the forum.
