Belarus, Russia's Volgograd Oblast interested in joint projects, industrial cooperation

Members of the Commission on Budget, Taxes and Financial Market of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia met with Governor of Russia's Volgograd Oblast Andrei Bocharov on 28 September, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of parliament.

The parties discussed the bilateral cooperation between Belarus and Volgograd Oblast in various fields and reviewed the status of the Union State programs.

The Belarusian Parliament was represented by the member of the Council of the Republic Tatiana Runets, deputies of the House of Representatives Lyudmila Nizhevich and Oksana Gaiduk. Interregional cooperation is one of the key contributors to the integration. Since 2020, the trade has been steadily rising, with both Belarusian exports to the region and imports from Volgograd Oblast growing. In January-July the trade exceeded $163 million.

Belarusian major exports include passenger, agricultural and utility vehicles, rolled metals. In turn, Volgograd manufacturers supply Belarus with aluminum, rolled ferrous metals, bearings, various types of silicon, chemical products and agricultural raw materials.

"The economy of Volgograd Oblast has been growing; new enterprises are being set up. Belarus and Volgograd Oblast have a mutual interest in the manufacturing sector, agriculture, and humanitarian matters, which should be more actively converted into joint projects and industrial cooperation," the Belarusian MPs stressed.
