Belarus' grain crop reaches 6m tonnes

Six million tonnes of grain crops, including rapeseed, have already been harvested in Belarus, BelTA learned from the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 17 August, some 80% of the designated area under these crops has been cleared in Belarus, including 78% of area under grain crops and over 87% of area under leguminous crops.

Over 6 million tonnes of grain, including rapeseed, have been threshed. This made up more than 5 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops and 931,000 tonnes of rapeseed.

Flax was pulled from over 90% of the area under this crop. The flax straw harvest reached some 19,000 tonnes.

Cereal and legume straws were harvested from almost 50% of the area.

The soil is being prepared for the sowing of crops for next year. Winter rapeseed for grain has been sown on almost 57% of the area. According to the Agriculture and Food Ministry, the pace is twice as high as last year.

Belarusian agricultural workers have also got down to harvesting corn for silage. Some 72,000 tonnes have been cropped so far.
