Belarus and Russia need to level the playing field in the economy, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk told the media ahead of the meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State in Minsk on 6 December, BelTA has learned.

“When it came to gas prices [for Belarus], we always said that it was necessary to take into account gas pricing in Russia. The final gas price is the result of cross-subsidies, which is carried out within the framework of our internal budgetary process. Today we put the issue more deeply and say that it is necessary to equalize competitive conditions,” Alexei Overchuk said.

According to him, it is not only about energy prices, but also about labor costs and tariff barriers.

“There are a lot of issues, and we suggest considering everything comprehensively,” the Russian deputy prime minister added.
