“Two new Belarusian trolleybuses are already running on the streets of Nizhny Novgorod. We are also considering the issue of trolleybus production localization, if we aim to keep a part of trolleybus routes, and we are considering such an option for the lower part of the city. I think we will follow the same path here. We have already been producing electric buses and trams. All 170 trams will be made at the joint venture,” Gleb Nikitin said.
According to the head of the Russian region, there are a lot of joint projects with Belarus, with some under deep elaboration. “Belarusian-made agricultural machinery is of very high quality and in great demand among our farmers. We are considering the issues of both joint maintenance service (this is probably the simplest and mandatory project) and localization of some production models. We are also talking about joint production of unmanned aerial vehicles in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast with Nizhny Novgorod component base, which is of high quality. There are also humanitarian construction projects. This means we have a lot of areas where we can really complement each other. There will also be a project in the IT sector. We discussed last time that we are very similar - we have no hydrocarbons. Therefore, it is mainly manufacturing industry, science, and high technologies,” he said.
One of the projects is a school for 1,500 students, which is under construction in Arzamas. “The Belarusians are building a school - a new, comfortable, modern building. There will even be a school observatory named after Chkalov. We are considering building more educational institutions. First of all, we are now looking at specific locations that are a priority for us. We are considering Kstovo, Balakhna, Nizhny Novgorod, all of which we will discuss with our colleagues at working meetings and events,” the governor said.
According to Gleb Nikitin, it is important for the region that Belarusians discover Nizhny Novgorod. “It is important for Nizhny Novgorod residents to travel to Minsk, Brest, other cities of Belarus. For this, we have direct flights today. Since March 2023 we have already transported about 11,500 people. The flight seat occupancy rate is sometimes 98-100%. There are times when it is about 70%, which is also good. This shows that we have made the right decision. In time we will consider increasing the frequency of flights,” the head of the Russian region said.
