MP: Belarus, Russia are confident players in global food market

The event brought together representatives of the Permanent Committee of the Union State, the Agriculture and Food Ministry of Belarus, the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia, and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. 

The MPs were updated on the preparation of joint proposals for the appropriate programs of the Union State.

The MPs also reviewed the progress in the formation of a common agricultural policy as one of the priority areas of ensuring the security of the Union State.

“The growing agricultural industry within the Union State allows ensuring food security of our countries in qualitative and quantitative terms,” said Andrei Balysh, member of the Parliamentary Assembly Commission on Agrarian Issues, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Commission on Agrarian Policy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus. 

According to him, at a time of external pressure and dependence on foreign goods and technologies, it is imperative to strengthen the agrarian base and to promote cooperation. “Today, within the framework of the regular meeting of the Commission on Agrarian Issues of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, we discussed cooperation in science, technology and manufacturing sector within the Union State in terms of agriculture and the approximation of legislation in agricultural matters. All this will allow us, the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation, to continue to be confident players in the global food market,” Andrei Balysh said. 

The development of intellectual farming and horticulture, breeding and seed production remain among the key areas of cooperation between Belarus and Russia. “Pooling together the scientific efforts of the two countries will not only help solve current tasks, but also strengthen the positions of the Union State in the global agricultural sector,” Andrei Balysh emphasized.
