Belarusian and Russian scientists discussed the development of artificial intelligence at a foresight session, which was as part of the International Foresight on Artificial Intelligence in Belarus on 25 August, BelTA has learned.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko visited the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, took part in a seminar dedicated to the International Foresight on Artificial Intelligence, and discussed cooperation with Belarus in AI.

He thanked the scientists for the work carried out during the day. “By working together with our scientists and international experts, we have identified ten areas of fundamental research in the field of artificial intelligence. We believe they should shape the future. They also formed the basis of international foresight,” he said. “First, we need to set priorities among these fundamental areas in order to single out those of strategic importance specifically for international cooperation. We will strive to identify the main scientific tasks within these areas and determine where to begin in order to build the right scientific agenda. The structure of all these areas is not fixed; it must be updated and revised.”

"We will compile all of today’s presentations, and thanks to the network of artificial intelligence research centers established in Russia, we will be able to find partners to continue working together. All of these centers receive state support, and it is clear that everything invented will find practical application. I am confident that together with you we can make new discoveries. We have accumulated considerable experience in implementing inventions. I invite you to visit our research centers and learn about their experience in artificial intelligence," Dmitry Chernyshenko added.

Acting Director of Russia’s Strategic Agency for Support and Formation of AI Development Kirill Zemlyanukhin noted that during the foresight session discussions and subsequent working arrangements, several potential areas of cooperation were outlined. "We have learned a lot, taken a closer look at the Belarusian side, and also heard about possible avenues for scientific cooperation between our countries and organizations. We will try to launch some of them, revive others, and bring people together to structure new joint projects," he said. "From what we discussed today, the Russian side is interested in projects on the use of AI in chemistry and medicine, particularly oncology. We will also try to address the problem of access to computing resources for Belarusian organizations engaged in research."
