Mishustin highlights importance of Belarus-Russia Union State

17:35, 7 April

It is particularly important today to develop the Union State, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said as he delivered a speech during a session of the State Duma on 7 April, BelTA has learned.

The main part of Mikhail Mishustin's report dealt with measures to prop up the Russian economy amidst the Western sanctions. “Our country is integrated into global processes, we have allies and partners and we continue to cooperate with those who want to run their business in our country, and we will continue to support investors, including foreign ones, and intensify contacts with partners in the Eurasian Economic Union,” he said.

“Another important area of international cooperation is the development of our Union State with Belarus. The Union State Treaty was signed more than 20 years ago, and last year a historic decision was made: our presidents approved the main vectors of the implementation of the treaty. Now, it guides the establishment of the common economic space and the common legal space of Russia and Belarus. It is especially important right now,” the prime minister of Russia said.

“Those who attacked us thought they would break us. But I emphasize once again: the economy has survived, we have survived. The situation is difficult, but manageable. It gave rise to a whole array of opportunities, like never before. And we definitely need to take advantage of them,” Mikhail Mishustin emphasized.
