The strategic goal of the information security concept approved by a resolution of the Supreme State Council of the Union State is to protect the national interests of Belarus and Russia, State Secretary of the Union State Dmitry Mezentsev said while commenting on the document, BelTA has learned.

"The strategic goal of the concept is to protect the national interests of Belarus and Russia in the media landscape, taking into account modern challenges and threats, significant changes in the military and political situation in the Eastern European region and unprecedented sanctions pressure on our countries - parties to the Union State Treaty," Dmitry Mezentsev said.

According to him, the adoption of such an important document will contribute to the additional protection of the critical information infrastructure of the sister nations, which, in turn, will strengthen the potential to counter destructive activities by unfriendly countries.

"The document approved by Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin, members of the Supreme State Council of the Union State, reaffirms commitment to maintaining the allied relations between the two states," the Secretary of State emphasized.

“The document was developed in close collaboration of the offices of the security councils, foreign ministries and other authorities of the two countries. The document seeks to create a solid legal foundation to respond to modern information challenges and threats,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The main purpose of the document is to protect the national interests of the Union State members in the media landscape. The concept sets guidelines for a coherent state policy and for public relations in the field of information security. It also sets the framework for improving the information security systems of the two states.
