"The rules of operation on the common electric power market of the Union State may be approved in the near future," Denis Moroz, Deputy Energy Minister, said in an interview with the First Information TV channel, BelTA has learned.

In December 2024, Belarus and Russia signed an interstate agreement on the formation of a unified electric energy market of the Union State.

"This is a very serious, fundamental document. We've been working on signing it for quite a long time. Thanks to this agreement, we have managed to build a trajectory for the unification of the electricity markets in Belarus and Russia. Considering that they are currently functioning slightly differently, we have managed to find compromise points, with the help of which we have determined how we will work in the next stages. The next step is to sign the rules of operation on the common electric power market. At the moment, this document is in a high degree of readiness and is undergoing internal approval. I think that we will sign this document in the near future," Denis Moroz shared.

He noted that the formation of a common market will occur gradually.

"At the first stage, we will ensure interaction between business entities of the common electric power market at the level of authorized organizations. With deeper integration in the next stages, we will be able to create a system where all consumers and energy producers in Belarus will be able to interact with the same consumers and producers in Russia," the Deputy Minister noted.

Denis Moroz identified two goals for the formation of a common electric power market. "Firstly, the reliability of energy systems should be improved. The more participants there are in the energy system, the more reliable it becomes. The second goal is to expand opportunities for consumers to choose energy suppliers. This ensures the alignment of business conditions for economic entities, increasing the competitiveness of both countries," the Deputy Minister concluded.
