Lukashenko: Belarusian parliament is working well

The next session of the House of Representatives will begin on 15 September. In this regard, the president asked about the readiness of the parliamentary corps for this work, and also about the legislative agenda. “What kind of help and support do you need? And how are the MPs working? Are there any complaints about anyone?” he asked.

“It seems to me that overall the parliament is working well. The House of Representatives is minding its own business. I understand that the house in general, and its members, are in a steady groove. I don’t see any particular concerns. As a former MP myself, I understand that things are proceeding calmly and well,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “Legislative work is hard work. It does not tolerate sudden bursts. Our parliament is doing its job. That is my view, my impression.”

Another important topic was the situation in Vitebsk Oblast. The head of state asked Igor Sergeyenko, who serves as the Presidential Envoy to the region, about how things were going and what impressions he had formed regarding the region’s performance. Aleksandr Lukashenko also specifically inquired about the activities of agricultural enterprises overseen by the parliamentary leadership.

“You have been heavily involved with Natalya Kochanova in Vitebsk Oblast. I am aware that you have a collective farm and that both of you are responsible for it. That is very good. Whether you provide financial help or not is not the main issue. But the fact that you see the problems and can make timely adjustments and fine-tune what is needed, that is certain,” the president said. “I find this experience interesting. Invite me, and I would be happy to visit the farm you are overseeing.”

Igor Sergeyenko noted that over the two and a half years of the eighth convocation, a system for exercising parliamentary powers and implementing state policy in line with the president’s instructions has been established. “MPs have gained experience in drafting legislation and in international activities. Of course, work in constituencies is also very important,” he said.

During the third session of the House of Representatives, 89 bills were adopted, of which 11 were passed in the first reading, while work on 78 was fully completed and they became laws.

One of the key tasks of the fourth session of the House of Representatives is the adoption of the 2027 budget and tax package. The documents included in it will be aligned with the social and economic development forecast and the main directions of monetary policy.
