"The 9th CIS Documentary Film Festival 'Eurasia.DOC' is taking place in Minsk on October 2 and 3," Andrei Krivosheyev, Chairman of the Belarusian Union of Journalists and Executive Director of the festival, told reporters at a press conference at the National Press Center of Belarus, BELTA reports.

"On September 29, we ceremoniously opened the 9th festival in Smolensk at the Sovremennik Cinema. Audience interest in documentary film is growing. I hope we'll see this interest in Minsk as well. For these two days, Minsk becomes the documentary film capital of the Commonwealth of Independent States, bringing together leading journalists from the CIS and beyond," said Andrei Krivosheev.

Thus, 20 documentaries will be shown in Minsk as part of the competition. The festival's main themes include the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, Nazism in the 21st century, and human overcoming various challenges. "These films are portraits, and can relate to health limitations, volunteer missions, spiritual service, asceticism, and missionary work," added Andrei Krivosheev. "Many documentary filmmakers delve deeply into the cultural traditions and regions of Eurasia."

"Right now, we're not specifically looking for films; we're just accepting submissions. In that sense, we're not molding the program," said festival director Valery Shekhovtsov. He added that over 350 applications were submitted for the main competition this year.

All screenings will be free, and there will also be roundtable discussions and meetings with leading CIS documentary filmmakers and special guests. "Essentially, a number of our open screenings can be considered professional master classes," noted Andrey Krivosheev.

So, on October 1st and 2nd, some of the participants’ performances already took place.
