A steady declining trend in the COVID-19 spread is expected in a month in Belarus, deputy chief physician of Belarus' National Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health Irina Glinskaya said in an interview to the Belarus 1 TV channel.

According to Irina Glinskaya, the number of new cases is declining in Vitebsk Oblast. “I believe that somewhere in a month, by the end of this month, we will reach a steady decline in the number of new COVID-19 cases. Then, we will be able to talk about further forecasts,” she said

Irina Glinskaya said that the things have been developing practically in line with the forecast made by Belarusian specialists. “We have prepared this forecast. We have designed the epidemiological model. Various specialists participated in its development as it is the interface of different sciences: epidemiology, virology, infectious diseases. We considered different parameters: the average incubation period of coronavirus, different models how the situation can develop. Of course, we took into account certain social features. We understand full well that people will not strictly follow the social distancing recommendations of the Healthcare Ministry on weekends as they do on working days,” she said. " This forecast has been almost completely accurate since the start. It is probably in the last week and a half that we have deviated by one day from the forecast,” she added.

Irina Glinskaya stressed that the the measures taken in Belarus to fight against COVID-19 are effective. “They helped us avoid a huge number of cases, prevent their avalanche-like growth,” she added.
