Minsk Residents Selected Top Twenty Films of 2019

Minskers have started visiting cinemas more often. In 2019, over 3.5 million moviegoers went to Minsk cinemas, shared Olga Bogovarova, Head of the Repertoire Planning and Forecasting Department of Kinovideoproat unitary enterprise of the Minsk City Executive Committee, reports the Union State portal.

Over the past year, Kinovideoprokat cinemas were visited by 3,594,807 spectators, which is 289,807 more people than in 2018.
The top-grossing film in 2019 was Avengers: Endgame, which was watched by more than 263 thousand people. The top three also include Joker and The Lion King. The fourth place was taken by the film Maleficent: Lady Of Darkness, whereas the fifth – by the follow-up of the animated tale about two princess sisters Frozen - 2. The cartoon How to Train Your Dragon-3 won the sixth place, whereas animation The Secret Life Of Pets took the seventh. Spider-Man: Far From Home ranked eighth, It Chapter Two – the ninth, while Captain Marvel – the tenth.
The second ten starts with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The twelfth place went to Aladdin with its hit tunes familiar since childhood, the thirteenth – to Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Show. The fourteenth place was taken by the Addams Family animation, the fifteenth– by the Oscar-winning picture Green Book, the sixteenth – by T-34, the seventeenth – by Ford vs Ferrari. Russian film Policeman From Rublyovka. New Year's Lawlessness took the eighteenth place, whereas Jumanji: The Next Level – the nineteenth. Star Wars: Episode IX – The Ascent of Skywalker rounds out the top twenty of 2019.
Olga Bogovarova noted that cinemas showed a lot of Belarusian films as well. In 2019, 115 films, including feature films, documentaries and animated films, were screened in our country. Moviegoers could watch Black Dog, War. To Stay A Human, Ghouls, II, Sasha’s Hell, Rusty Critters and others.
“We invited different companies to give our young filmmakers an opportunity to make themselves known, to give them a platform for work. I consider it very important to give a Belarusian cinemagoer a chance to see local works. In addition, we have a special screening programme at the Pioneer Cinema. As you can see, the Belarusian programme is our number one concern,” assured Olga Bogovarova.
As for the plans for 2020, the audience can expect a lot of interesting things. For instance, among the Belarusian just outs is the film Adventures of Prantish Vyrvich. A feature film about the fate of the Belarusian classic Kupala is to be presented in September.
A large number of Russian films is planned to be released as well. Among them is The Fairy by Anna Melikyan and Streltsova by Ilya Uchitel. The film Sputnik is planned to be screened in April. Besides that, Belarusian cinemas are going to show such films as Goalkeeper of the Galaxy, Chernobyl, Kramora and Fire.
In April, moviegoers are to enjoy a new episode of Bondiana: No Time To Die starring Daniel Craig as “Agent 007”. Among other much-awaited premieres are such films as Black Widow starring Scarlett Johansson, Wonder Woman, 1984, Ghostbusters, Godzilla vs. Kong, Dune, West Side Story, Blessed Virgin, and How do you live?.
