Minsk is preparing for the City Day, and one of the main gifts for residents will be nine new recreation areas. This was announced by the Deputy Director General for the improvement and maintenance of green facilities of the Minskzelenstroy UP Ekaterina Korotkina at a press conference, reports a Soyuz.by correspondent.

According to Korotkina, Minskzelenstroy is responsible for 158 squares, 28 boulevards, 38 parks and forest parks, as well as 23 beach areas. The organization annually carries out large-scale works on improvement, landscaping and flower decoration of the city.

More than 30 thousand trees and more than 300 thousand shrubs are planted annually. This year, spring planting amounted to 24 thousand trees and about 130 thousand shrubs, and in the fall the work will continue.

In the floral design of the capital, a course has been taken to reduce the number of annual plants and increase perennials. This year, 1 million 350 thousand annual flowers have been planted, and it is also planned to plant about 100 thousand perennials, including about 50 thousand roses (in previous years, about 15 thousand roses were planted per year).

Particular attention is paid to the creation of new recreation areas in each district of the city. These areas are created in hard-to-reach areas, along water bodies and on lands not subject to development. The work includes clearing the territory, creating paths, planting green spaces and floral design. To date, more than 72 such areas have been created in Minsk, and nine more will be opened by City Day.
