Electric vehicle transportation up by 4.1% in Minsk in 2019

The volume of passenger transportation by electric vehicles increased by 4.1% in Minsk in 2019, Valery Shkuratov, Director of the Metropolitan Transport and Communications company, said in an interview with the STV channel.

“Overall the volume of passenger transportation by electric vehicles increases annually. In 2019 the growth was 4.1%. Such trend will remain in place this year,” Valery Shkuratov said. A total of 80 electric vehicles operate on seven city's routes in Minsk.

This year Minsk will get 350 new trolleybuses, including e-trolleybuses, and 50 advanced trams.

According to Valery Shkuratov, the whole world is switching to electric transport. Tram service is being restored in Europe. Minsk is also planning to build new tram lines. “According to our general work plan, we are working on a new tram line which will connect Sukharevo District and Minsk's downtown. Design and construction will take about three to four years at least. The whole process will last for five to six years,” Valery Shkuratov noted.
