Belarus, Russia’s Bashkortostan seek cooperation in energy sector

Belarus and Bashkortostan plan to develop cooperation in the energy sector, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Energy Ministry.

The prospects for partnership were discussed at a meeting between Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich and a delegation from Bashkortostan headed by Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Industry, Energy and Innovation Aleksandr Sheldyaev.

The parties discussed opportunities for cooperation in the modernization of the power grid infrastructure, including the application of advanced solutions for the automation of distribution networks and equipping substations with modern electrical equipment.

According to Viktor Karankevich, Belarus has been extensively reconstructing its power grids. About 2,700km of them were built and modernized in 2023. This year this amount will be increased to 3,000km. Projects on modernization of substations of different voltage classes are underway as well.

The parties also focused on the possibility for Bashkortostan's organizations to take part in service maintenance of transformer and reactor equipment at Belarusian power facilities. Special attention was paid to import substitution. The delegation of Bashkortostan expressed interest in attracting Belarusian personnel to design construction and installation works at the region's power facilities.
