During the meeting, the head of Russia’s northern capital conveyed words of gratitude and best wishes to Aleksandr Lukashenko from the residents of St. Petersburg. “You know, Leningrad residents love you very much. In our city you are a symbol of courage and resilience, a symbol of that Soviet era, in the good sense of the word, which truly made the Soviet Union powerful. And today you are making the country powerful and strong. And the people are grateful to you.”
The governor noted in his conversation with the president that, according to the results of the first nine months of 2026, GDP growth in Belarus was 2%, while in agriculture the increase was more than 4%: “This is a great deal of work. That means Belarusians work well, selflessly. And under your leadership, such successes are achieved. A good harvest.”

Alexander Beglov told journalists how it is possible to ensure growth in cooperation between Belarus and St. Petersburg - annual trade stands at around $3 billion and continues to grow: “The secret is very simple. Aleksandr Grigoryevich [Lukashenko] said that we need to move away from the ‘buyer-seller’ formula and simply engage in industrial cooperation, which is what we have successfully done over the past three years. For us this is very important.”
Belarus and St Petersburg cooperate successfully in the supply of transport and municipal equipment. “Belarusian manufacturers respond very quickly to our wishes and orders,” the governor said.
He said this applies not only to buses, trolleybuses and electric buses, Belarus has also produced the firefighting equipment the city needs.
Cooperation with Russia’s northern capital is also actively developing in the supply of food products. Just the other day, the flagship store of the Belarusian Village project opened in St Petersburg. Alexander Beglov shared that he very much likes the decor and the warm atmosphere in these retail outlets: “You walk in not as if it were just some shop, but as if you were walking into your own home. The residents of our city love the products supplied from Belarus. They are, as they say, made to the old GOST standards, very tasty and healthy.”

“We have no issues. We work together in harmony. That is why we succeed,” Alexander Beglov stressed.
On behalf of the city residents, the governor particularly thanked Belarus for the concert Every Third, which was shown in St. Petersburg in September 2026. The event was timed to coincide with the 85th anniversary of the start of the Leningrad blockade. “A better gift could not have been imagined. It brought us to tears. The entire hall was crying. It was a great concert,” Alexander Beglov said.
