Belarusian government approves draft Union State program for Chernobyl recovery

The Belarusian Council of Ministers endorsed the draft Union State program for Belarus-Russia joint efforts to address the aftermath of the Chernobyl accident. Belarusian Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin signed the relevant resolution, BelTA learned from the government’s press service.

The document will be submitted to the Union State Council of Ministers in due time. The previous program (2019-2024) has been declared finished.
The draft program provides for improving the accessibility and quality of medical care for citizens of Belarus and Russia affected by the Chernobyl accident with help of new medical technologies and treatment methods. The program also envisages conducting surveys of abandoned territories in Belarus and Russia to bring them back into economic use and improving agriculture production technologies. Other measures are aimed at reducing risks and ensuring radiation protection for the population.
The state customers from Belarus are the Emergencies Ministry as coordinator, the Healthcare Ministry, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
A total of RUB1,998.3 million shall be designated from the Union State budget to finance the program in 2026-2030
