Brest bears symbolic value as the host of the 12th Forum of Sister Cities of Belarus and Russia, Executive Vice President of the Moscow Sister City Association Sergei Paramonov told BelTA on the sidelines of the forum, which is officially opening in Brest on 29 September.

The day before, representatives of the Belarusian and Russian delegations visited the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial Complex and laid flowers at the Eternal Flame to honor the memory of those who died during the Great Patriotic War.

Sergei Paramonov believes it is important to remember about the heroic past of the Soviet people, when all the peoples of the brotherly republics fought together against the Nazi invaders. The pain of losses and sufferings of the people is vividly traced here, on the Brest land, at the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial Complex.

The theme of patriotism will be among the topics high on the agenda of the forum, especially during a meeting of the sister cities youth, which is to be held for the first time. The new format in the form of the youth interaction is aimed at getting young people familiar with the twinning movement.
