Two Belarusian oblasts complete winter crop sowing

The sowing of winter crops was completed in two oblasts of Belarus, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 9 October, some 8,229,100 tonnes of grain crops and rapeseed were cropped in Belarus. This included 7,193,900 tonnes of grain and leguminous crops as well as corn.

Brest Oblast and Minsk Oblast completed the sowing of winter crops. On the whole, winter grain crops were sown on 1,381,400 hectares of land (89.9% of the plan).

Harvesting of corn kernels is underway in all the oblasts of the country, with 101,400 hectares of land already cleared. Some 813,400 tonnes of corn kernels were threshed, with the yields averaging 80.2 centners per hectare.

Some 18,232,800 tonnes of corn for silage were cropped so far.

Brest Oblast, Grodno Oblast, Minsk Oblast and Gomel Oblast have completed buckwheat harvesting: 50,700 tonnes of buckwheat (yields are 14.5 centners per hectare) were threshed.

Belarusian agricultural workers harvested 640,600 tonnes of potatoes. The yields average 353.7 centners per hectare.

Sugar beet harvesting is also in progress in Belarus. Some 1,933,300 tonnes of sugar beet were removed, with the yields standing at 171.8 centners per hectare.
