Governor: Kaliningrad Oblast aims to reach pre-sanction level of trade with Belarus

Kaliningrad Oblast aims to return to the pre-sanction level of trade with Belarus, Governor of Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast Alexey Besprozvannykh told journalists after he met with the Belarusian head of state on 9 June, BelTA reports.

“Over the two years, trade between Kaliningrad Oblast and Belarusian regions has dropped. We have set an ambitious goal for ourselves - to reach the pre-sanction level of trade; we have long-term agreements with all regions of Belarus. The key reason for the decline in trade are the restrictions imposed by our unfriendly neighbors. But businesses are adapting, adjusting, finding new logistics channels. If we have restrictions on transportation by land, we use sea routes,” the head of the Russian region said.
As far as joint projects are concerned, one of the important areas of interaction concerns land reclamation, which is very relevant for Kaliningrad Oblast. “Belarus has amassed extensive experience in land management. Today we have discussed a joint program to use Belarus' technologies and equipment,” Alexey Besprozvannykh said.
He noted that residents of Kaliningrad Oblast love dairy and sausage products made in Belarus. “I know that Belarusian consumers like our fish products. We have discussed how to ramp up our trade in these product groups,” the governor said.
A number of projects in the industrial sector are also on the agenda. For example, Kaliningrad Oblast can supply batteries for electric vehicles to Belarus and purchase various types of Belarus-made equipment.
