Over 90% of area under grain, leguminous crops harvested in Belarus

Grain and leguminous crops have been harvested from the area of over 90% in Belarus, BelTA learned from the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 23 August, 90.5% of the area under grain and leguminous crops and over 88% of the area under rapeseed was cleared in Belarus.

A total of 6,723,000 tonnes of grain, including rapeseed, was cropped. This includes 5,788,000 tonnes of grain and leguminous crops and over 934,500 tonnes of rapeseed. Brest Oblast has concluded the harvesting of grain and leguminous crops.

Flax was pulled from 99% of the area under this crop. Flax pulling was completed in Minsk Oblast, Vitebsk Oblast, Grodno Oblast, Gomel Oblast and Brest Oblast. The flax straw harvest reached some 34,000 tonnes.

Cereal and legume straws were harvested from 55% of the area. Primary tillage was conducted on 14% of the cleared area.

The soil is being prepared for the sowing of crops for next year. Winter rapeseed for grain was sown on 93% of the area. Minsk Oblast, Brest Oblast and Mogilev Oblast have completed winter rapeseed planting.

Belarusian agricultural workers have also got down to harvesting corn for silage. Some 314,000 tonnes have been cropped so far.
