The presidents of Belarus and Russia have agreed on all major issues in the energy industry, including the most sensitive ones, Russian President Vladimir Putin told the media after his talks with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 19 December, BelTA has learned.

“We have discussed the price parameters in the energy sector,” said the Russian leader. “We may consider that all the major issues, including the sensitive ones on pricing in the energy sector, have been agreed.”

According to him, cooperation in the peaceful atom is also systematically expanding. “Next year we plan to complete the construction of the second power unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant,” the president said.

He confirmed that agreements on the price of energy carriers were reached, but did not disclose any details: “I have already said. I can only confirm: the agreements have been reached.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko explained that the corresponding decisions on the matter were taken and would be formalized by the governments of the two countries in the near future. “I think, then there will be a reason for us to talk. We have fixed the price; it is beneficial for us. Russia is helping a lot in this regard.”

According to him, there are some new topics in gas supplies, but they have not been mentioned publicly, as well. “I can say only one thing: we are happy with the results of the discussion on a common gas market, the concept and the prices for the next three years,” the Belarusian president said.
