Belarus' grain harvest reaches 8.3m tonnes

Some 8.3 million tonnes of grain crops and rapeseed have been threshed in Belarus, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 11 October, some 8,350,200 tonnes of grain crops and rapeseed were cropped in Belarus. This included 7,309,400 tonnes of grain and leguminous crops as well as corn.

Brest Oblast, Grodno Oblast and Minsk Oblast have completed sowing winter crops. Across the country winter grain crops have been sown on 1,409,000 hectares of land (91.6% of the plan).

Harvesting of corn kernels is underway in all the oblasts of the country, with 114,800 hectares of land already cleared. Some 926,700 tonnes of corn kernels were threshed, with the yields averaging 80.7 centners per hectare. Some 18,924,200 tonnes of corn for silage were cropped so far.

Brest Oblast, Grodno Oblast, Minsk Oblast, Gomel Oblast and Mogilev Oblast have completed buckwheat harvesting: 51,200 tonnes of buckwheat (yields are 14.5 centners per hectare) were threshed.

Belarusian agricultural workers harvested 667,800 tonnes of potatoes. The yields average 352.9 centners per hectare.

Sugar beet harvesting is also in progress in Belarus. Some 2,106,900 tonnes of sugar beet were removed, with the yields standing at 456.2 centners per hectare.
