Apart from that, a plan of activities of the joint board of the Belarusian Defense Ministry and the Russian one for the next year was signed.
Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin noted that a lot had been done since the previous session of the joint board. “With a view to advancing military cooperation Belarus and Russia signed an agreement on setting up and operating combat training centers for the joint training of military personnel of Belarus' and Russia's armed forces. In practice joint combat training events were held both within the framework of operation of the combat training centers and as part of the efforts to train the joint regional military force and the joint regional air defense system,” the official said.
The Belarusian defense minister reminded that in accordance with the decision made by the leaders of Belarus and Russia to deploy Russian non-strategic nuclear weapons in Belarus' territory facilities for storing the weapons were arranged. Apart from that, personnel were trained to use the weapons. Documents were also signed to determine maintenance procedures of these weapons.
“In the sphere of military technology cooperation the sides continued helping each other with deliveries of the necessary weapons and military hardware. I am happy to also report that Russia's military technical aid to Belarus is a new area of our interaction. Work is now in progress, including work to organize repairs of the Belarusian army's hardware at Russian defense industry enterprises,” the defense minister noted.
Apart from that, cooperation in training military personnel proceeds successfully. Belarusian military personnel are trained not only in leading higher education institutions of the Russian Defense Ministry but also as part of various career enhancement courses in various training facilities of Russia's Armed Forces.
