Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin are set to instruct the heads of the key enterprises to start discussing new projects with a view to intensifying economic cooperation, Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov told the media after the talks between the two leaders on 14 September, TASS informs.

“The two heads of state agreed to intensify the work of the intergovernmental commission, ministries and key enterprises,” the press secretary said.

In his words, the relevant instruction will be given to the heads of the corresponding ministries and agencies, and also directors of the key enterprises to start discussing concrete projects to stop the downward trend in trade between the two countries.

According to Dmitry Peskov, it is too early to discuss the possibility of setting up joint companies as an effort to step up trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. “It is impossible to talk about it now. It is rather a consequence of the effort to intensify trade and economic cooperation,” he said.

The presidents agreed to continue the work on the preparation for the next Russian-Belarusian Forum of Regions. “There are plans to hold this event in late September. The date will be announced later. The regional dialogue is viewed by the two presidents as extremely important,” said the Kremlin representative. According to him, the presidents also agreed to organize a meeting between individual regional leaders ahead of the forum. “Such a meeting will be organized in the nearest future,” said Dmitry Peskov.
