Belarusian team wins mixed relay race at biathlon cup outside Minsk

Belarusian athletes have secured a victory during the final race of the fourth leg of the Commonwealth Cup in biathlon held in Raubichi, Minsk District, BelTA has learned.

Three teams from our country and six Russian quartets took part in a 4x6 km mixed relay. The main Belarusian team consisted of Dzinara Smolskaya, Hanna Sola, Stsiapan Danilau, and Anton Smolski. In the starting stage Dzinara Smolskaya demonstrated flawless shooting and handed over the baton while 20 seconds behind the leader.

Hanna Sola made up the gap even before the shooting range and took the lead during her leg of the race, pulling away from her rivals by the same 20 seconds. Stsiapan Danilau, who was racing behind, did not miss a single shot and increased the lead. In the final stage Anton Smolski only had to stay in the first place, which he did.

Throughout the race the Belarus 1 team used only three additional rounds of ammunition. The Russia 1 quartet, which finished second (Anastasia Khalili, Natalia Shevchenko, Savely Konovalov, Kirill Bazhin) finished 36 seconds behind the hosts, with Russia 2 (Anastasiya Tomshina, Viktoriya Slivko, Evgenii Sidorov, Eduard Latypov) finishing third, one and a half minutes behind.

The Belarus 2 team consisting of Irina Shakleina, Alena Kulak, Maksim Varabei, and Nikita Lobastov came fifth. The Belarus 3 quartet (Kseniya Varobei, Alina Zaitseva, Pavel Belko, Dzmitry Lazouski) was removed from the race.

Thus, Belarusian biathletes won a total of four medals (2-1-1) in Raubichi. Earlier Anton Smolski won a pursuit race and was third in a sprint race while Hanna Sola took silver in a pursuit race. The next stage of the Commonwealth Cup will take place in Sochi, Russia on 11-15 February.
