Scientists are afraid of dramatic warming in Antarctica

In case of melting of ice the sea level may rise by several meters. Scientists have presented direct evidence that Antarctica is experiencing a twofold increase in temperature, exceeding the forecasts of climate models. The Guardian writes about this trend and global risks. A sharp increase in temperature was recorded in the western part of the continent, which is considered the most vulnerable to climate change. If the ice melts, the sea level may rise by several meters.

Previously, only the Arctic was discussed as an area of accelerated warming. A study was conducted at the Laboratory of Climate and Environmental Sciences in France, where scientists, including Mathieu Casado, began studying 78 ice cores. As a result, they found a significant temperature change in Antarctica.
It is interesting, that the dramatic warming in Antarctica is associated with the changed nature of winds caused by global climate change. Climate expert Sarah Jackson stressed that the results of this study cause "particular concern" in the scientific community. The melting of ice in Antarctica may be much larger than expected.
