Lukashenko: Up to me and Putin how to use nuclear weapons

The procedure for using nuclear weapons is not stipulated by the draft of the new Military Doctrine. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement as he talked to reporters on the sidelines of the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress session, BelTA has learned.

When asked whether the new Military Doctrine stipulates the procedure for using nuclear weapons, Aleksandr Lukashenko replied negatively: “The mechanism is not stipulated. It is up to me and Putin. Moreover, we consult with each other about how, when, and where not only tactical [nuclear weapons] but also conventional weapons should be used. This is why the procedure is stipulated where it should be.”
“I once let it drop that I have passed a decree, which stipulates the formula for using nuclear tactical missiles and the bombs that are carried by planes. All of it is stipulated and it is understandable how one should act and what should be done. But I talk less about it now because it is probably not a very good thing for us to talk about nuclear weapons. It is a terrible weapon. God forbid if we have to use it,” the president stressed.
