“The joint exercise involving the strategic nuclear forces of the Russian Federation and the tactical nuclear weapons deployed on the territory of the Republic of Belarus is not the first such drill conducted within the framework of the Union State. These exercises are organized by our general staffs on a quarterly basis. What drew closer attention to this particular exercise is that it was led and conducted by the heads of state, the president of the Republic of Belarus and the president of the Russian Federation. So perhaps this exercise simply received a bit more attention than usual. Secondly, this exercise demonstrated once again to all our Western opponents that nuclear weapons are indeed present on the territory of the Republic of Belarus, and that the Oreshnik operational-tactical system has been deployed. Through this exercise, we have shown our ability to use these weapons, as well as the determination of our states to defend our security, the security of the Union State, with all available forces and means,” Aleksandr Volfovich said.
“We are not threatening anyone in any way. This has been stated repeatedly by the president of the Republic of Belarus and the president of the Russian Federation. This weapon is not aimed against any state - Western or any other country in the world. Rather, it is intended to protect our interests,” he emphasized. At the same time, the state secretary drew attention to the accelerating pace of militarization in European Union countries, particularly Poland and the Baltic states.
“Of course, God forbid this weapon is ever used. We remember the lessons and conclusions drawn from Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and the consequences that such actions can bring. But if we are left no other choice, this weapon will be used - it will ensure our security and inflict unacceptable damage on the aggressor country,” Aleksandr Volfovich added.
