The secretariats of the Security Councils of Belarus and Russia have signed an information security cooperation plan. The document was signed by State Secretary of the Belarusian Security Council Aleksandr Volfovich and Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergey Shoigu following a bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of a meeting of the Committee of Secretaries of the CSTO Security Councils in Moscow on 26 May, BelTA has learned

According to Aleksandr Volfovich, the plan is designed to minimize information security threats in the Union State of Belarus and Russia.

“Unfortunately, the situation around our countries remains tense. We are seeing relentless external pressure and are registering new challenges and threats. The pace of Western militarization and the latest sanctions packages against our countries are clear evidence of this. This certainly requires coordinated efforts to ensure the security of the Union State,” he said.
The state secretary noted that Union State integration is not only an economic project. It is also about the national security of both states in the face of contemporary external threats. “Coordinating the interaction of our countries in security is one of the priorities of our bilateral relations. Lately, the relevant legal framework in this area has been updated and improved,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sergey Shoigu stated that Belarus and Russia have again demonstrated their unified stance on tackling major security challenges. “The situation at the borders of Russia and Belarus is heating up. The West makes no secret of its aggressive plans against Russia and Belarus. In many European countries, Nazi ideology is rapidly being revived. The history of the Second World War is being actively rewritten. During numerous military exercises , and there are currently almost seven taking place simultaneously, NATO’s armed forces are rehearsing scenarios for striking the Union State members,” he pointed out.

“Public attempts by European politicians, especially those from the Baltic states, to cover up obvious facts look absurd. Take, for example, accusations against Russia regarding the Ukrainian attack drones in the skies of the northern countries, and accusations against Belarus of maliciously sending balloons carrying contraband,” Sergey Shoigu said.
“We fully understand the true purpose of such actions by our European neighbors and respond accordingly,” he emphasized.
“We do not intend to get drawn into an arms race. Rather, we will continue to deepen cooperation in the defense-industrial complex and jointly strengthen our defense capabilities taking into account the changing methods of warfare,” Sergey Shoigu stated.
