Families of war veterans who fought in the area of Rzhev-Vyazemsk can send their photos to a relevant website so as to make them part of the design of the Museum of the Memorial Complex to the Soviet Soldier. The latter is being built at the request of WWII veterans at the site of fierce battles of 1942-1943, reads the website of Russian Military History Society (RVIO).

People can send photos in the online mode to the website Подоржевом.РФ. All they need to do is just fill in a short questionnaire, provide information about the military route of their close ones and attach his/her portrait photo. Photos are accepted until May 9th, 2020. The materials received will become part of the multimedia design of the Museum Pavilion, which is now being built at the foot of the sculpture of the Soviet Soldier. The pavilion is to acquire the status of the Victory Museum branch, so everyone can visit it.

The opening of the Rzhev Memorial to the Soviet Soldier is going to become one of the central events dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory.

The works on the monument continue at all times. The assembly of the central 25-meter figure of the Soldier has been completed. At the moment, bronze figures of cranes are being installed.

Right now, the monument is completely covered with scaffolds and a banner bearing the image of the memorial. People will be able to see the figure of the Soldier only on the eve of the opening. The total weight of the monument will make over 80 tons. Lacking of a traditional pedestal, the sculpture will look as if it is floating in the air.

The memorial is being established by the Russian Military History Society with the support of the Union State, Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and Tver Oblast Government. The project is being implemented without federal budget funds, but with public donations.
