Marianna Schetkina: We will always be together – Belarus and Russia, and our peoples will always be together

Speaking at the conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Daniil Granin and the 40th anniversary of The Blockade Book co-authored with Ales Adamovich, Head of the Union State Standing Committee Office in Minsk Marianna Schetkina noted that both Belarusians and Russians have the same attitude to the events of The Great Patriotic War, for it is impossible to separate people united by a common history.

“As long as there is reliable historical evidence, as long as there is truth and people who advocate this truth, there will be life and its prospects,” said Marianna Schetkina.
A documentary chronicle of the besieged Leningrad was written by a Belarusian and a Russian, the speaker emphasized. When leafing it through, the reader can always think about what may happen if people do not stay together.
“Nothing matters if there is no peaceful sky, if there are no near and dear ones, if there is no peace and stability. This is always the main thing and that is what our wonderful writers emphasize by dipping us into this pain, this mire, this appalling human tragedy. In the hall there are people who managed to survive the blockade. God save us all to learn what it is like,” the speaker emotionally expressed her thought. “We were together, we will be together: it is our fate. And if someone says that the Union State has no prospects, they are not just wrong, they really don’t understand that it’s impossible to separate people united by history, united by both joy and great grief and losses”.
Having expressed gratitude to veterans-survivors of the siege and Natalya Adamovich, the daughter of the Belarusian classic, who was present at the conference, the Head of the Union State Standing Committee Office noted that the cultural community of the two countries would soon celebrate another landmark date – 20th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty Establishing the Union State.
“We look forward to the meeting of our presidents, Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko and Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, in order to get the road maps and guidelines for our work,” said Schetkina.
