Reference: The tradition of celebrating the Day of Belarusian Writing originated in 1994, when events in honor of the Day of Belarusian Writing and the Press were held in Polotsk for the first time on August 28. On March 26, 1998, Presidential Decree No. 157 "On State holidays, public holidays and memorable dates in the Republic of Belarus" was adopted, which established that the Day of Belarusian Writing will be celebrated annually on the first Sunday of September.
This year, the capital of the Belarusian Writing Day was the city of Lida, Grodno region. The concept of the holiday included several main themes: the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, the Year of Landscaping, the 500th anniversary of the first publication of the book "The Apostle" by Francis Skaryna and the anniversaries of the classics of Belarusian literature.
The staff of the Representative Office of the Union State Standing Committee in Minsk, headed by Anatoly Markevich, took part in the events of the Writing Day. As part of the celebration, a presentation of the publications of the Library of the Union State took place. Also, on the Day of Writing, the Lida Regional Library received a gift of publications of the Union historical and educational project.
Next year, Kostyukovichi will be the literary capital of Belarus.
