Kupala Night celebrations on Augustow Canal

10:24, 6 July

On 5 July, the Augustow Canal hosted Kupala Night, one of the most vibrant traditional summer festivals.

Immersed in Belarusian folklore, the Dombrovka sluice welcomed visitors with a reenactment of ancient Kupala rituals, folk songs, and traditional dance masterclasses. Guests could gather wild herbs and learn how to weave flower wreaths from local experts. True to tradition, everyone had a chance to venture into the woods in search of the magical fern flower.

Participants enjoyed fun contests for the prettiest flower wreath and the longest braid. The main highlight of the day was the competition for the best Kupalish and Kupalinka, titles awarded to a young man and woman during the festival.

As evening fell, a great Kupala bonfire came alive on the banks of the Augustow Canal, drawing guests together to join hands in traditional circle dances.
