The agreement was signed in Moscow on December 18, 2024. It will apply to court decisions made in civil and criminal cases in part of a civil claim, providing for the debtor’s obligations to pay money to the claimant, including in terms of collecting state fees, other legal expenses and procedural costs.
“Judgments issued by the competent courts of one party do not require a special recognition procedure and are executed in the territory of the other party in the same manner as court decisions issued in the territory of the other party, on the basis of enforcement documents of the competent courts of the party on whose territory the court decisions were issued, taking into account the provisions of this agreement,” the document says.
As Alexey Kondratyev, a member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, explained when presenting the document for ratification in the upper house, now court decisions will not require a special recognition procedure and will be executed in the territories of the parties as national court decisions.
“This is a new good step in strengthening the foundation of the Union State,” summed up Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko.
The Belarusian side completed ratification procedures for this agreement in mid-2025.
