Sergei Glazyev reminded that the Day of Unity this year is celebrated against the backdrop of an important date - the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on the Creation of the Community of Belarus and Russia. From this event, he emphasized, ultimately emerged a colossal integration process that has been ongoing for three decades. Today, the Union State acts as a locomotive for integration processes in the Eurasian space, relying on the instruments of a single economic space, the Customs Union, and the free trade zone.
Glazyev separately addressed the launch of a pilot project for cross-border passenger service. Two electric trains departed from Smolensk - to Vitebsk and to Orsha. By the end of the year, the mechanism needs to be refined, demand and the competitiveness of this service determined, and benefits ensured for all passenger categories. Based on the year's results, other routes will be considered, and the experiment will show which other settlements in neighboring regions will be connected.
Speaking about the youth agenda, the Union State Secretary linked the prospect of the Day of Unity's popularity with the active work of Union structures. Work is currently underway on a youth policy strategy, a flash mob has been launched, and an open lesson was held at Gymnasium No. 1 in Belarus, which was broadcast to Belarusian and Russian schools. New tools of political education that give young people a sense of involvement in ongoing events will continue to be developed, including with the involvement of the youth parliament.
Glazyev also outlined key events on the Union agenda for 2026. Among them are traditional forums, such as the "Slavianski Bazaar," as well as commemorative events timed to the 85th anniversary of Nazi Germany's attack on the Soviet Union, including a reenactment of the first hours of the war in Brest and restoration work on the Brest Fortress. This will be followed by the Forum of Regions in the Minsk Region, the "Train of Memory," a student labor brigade rally, and youth forums. The youth policy strategy being developed, according to Glazyev, should be filled with substantive meaning and provide for an interactive format so that young people take direct part in its creation.
