According to Alexey Overchuk, 144 scheduled flights operate between the two countries weekly. “We are expanding the geographic reach: to St. Petersburg, Brest, Moscow, Mogilev. The process is underway. At the High-Level Group meeting in Pskov, we discussed providing support to air traffic from the border regions of Belarus. It is not yet clear how this will turn out, but we are thinking about it, working on it, and we understand that it is very important. There are certain nuances here, but we will work through them,” he said.

The Russian deputy prime minister also announced plans to expand cross-border commuter rail services. “The opening of commuter rail services between Smolensk and Vitebsk, as well as Smolensk and Orsha, is already a major milestone for this year. We are going to expand this network even further – we are quite open about it – with Velikiye Luki–Vitebsk and Velikiye Luki–Polotsk. We also agreed that a Bryansk–Gomel route is bound to be highly popular,” he noted.
“We can see a clear rise in passenger numbers there today, and there are already talks about adding extra carriages,” Alexey Overchuk added.
