Despite outside pressure, Belarus and Bryansk Oblast continue to maintain robust economic ties, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich said at a meeting with Governor of Russia’s Bryansk Oblast Yegor Kovalchuk in Minsk on 20 October, BelTA has learned.

The region firmly holds its place in the top ten Russian regions by trade volume with Belarus. “We need to analyze joint projects, identify growth points, coordinate actions, ensure their implementation and reach new landmark targets,” Viktor Karankevich said.

He singled out the expansion of cooperation in localizing production and import substitution as one of the key areas. He cited Bryanskselmash and Amkodor-Bryansk as examples. Belarus is ready to supply the region with a broad range of passenger, freight, utilities, road construction, special-purpose, emergency rescue and firefighting vehicles on mutually beneficial terms, using financial instruments under dedicated leasing programs.

Belarus is also interested in cooperation in the construction industry, participation in projects for major overhauls of apartment buildings, water disposal and water treatment, the development of housing and utility infrastructure, and the gasification projects. "This is only part of the areas in which we are ready to develop long-term cooperation. We are always open to interaction in agriculture and are interested in food and products manufactured in Bryansk Oblast," Viktor Karankevich noted.

He congratulated Yegor Kovalchuk on his victory in the Bryansk regional gubernatorial election and his official assumption of office. According to him, the high trust placed in him by the region’s residents serves as a solid foundation for future joint work. Belarus highly values the personal attention that Yegor Kovalchuk gives to strengthening and developing bilateral relations. Viktor Karankevich also thanked him for the immediate response in providing emergency medical assistance to those injured in drone attacks.

Governor Yegor Kovalchuk confirmed the region’s focus on achieving mutual trade of $1 billion and the interest in attracting Belarusian builders, developing industrial cooperation and working together in agriculture. He highlighted that it is important not to compete but to complement each other and to manufacture products with high added value.
