A meeting of the Commission on Science and Education of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia was held at the EcoTechnoPark-Volma Resource Center in the Dzerzhinsky District. The key topic of the meeting was the training of qualified workers and the harmonization of approaches to vocational education in the two countries, reports a Soyuz.by correspondent.

Olga Germanova, the chairperson and member of the State Duma Committee on Culture, emphasized the strategic importance of the issue under discussion. According to her, the fields of science and education require detailed and focused attention. While the previous meeting focused on supporting young scientists, this time the focus was on the challenges facing the Union State's labor market, particularly the shortage of skilled workers.

During the meeting, it was noted that the training mechanisms in Belarus and Russia differ significantly. Russia is actively developing a system of professional development that involves close collaboration between colleges and companies that commission the training: businesses participate in strengthening the facilities and developing curricula, and students receive scholarships and social support, but are not subject to mandatory placement.

The Belarusian model, by contrast, is based on guaranteed employment for graduates. Therefore, the meeting participants agreed on the need to harmonize legislation to more effectively utilize the two countries' talent pool.

Olga Germanova also noted the high demand for vocational education. In Russia, many high school graduates choose to enroll in colleges, where the admissions process reaches 4.8-5 points, confirming the demand for this type of education. Consideration is being given to reducing the length of training to allow young professionals to more quickly enter the labor market, which is currently experiencing a severe labor shortage.

During the visit, the parliamentarians attended practical classes for students at the EcoTechnoPark-Volma Resource Center, a branch of the Republican Institute of Vocational Education. The center's high-tech facilities, where students from virtually all Belarusian colleges receive training, were highly praised by the Russian side. According to Olga Germanova, this platform represents a unique experience that could be useful for adoption and implementation in the educational processes of both countries.
