Lukashenko to pay working visit to Tajikistan on 9-10 October

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko will make a working visit to Tajikistan on 9-10 October. The Belarusian leader will take part in a meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council, which will be held in Dushanbe on 10 October, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian head of state.

The CIS heads of state will consider approximately twenty items. Ahead of the Organization's upcoming 35th anniversary next year, a number of initiatives to strengthen its international positioning are planned for discussion. These include, in particular, the creation of a CIS Plus format and granting the Shanghai Cooperation Organization observer status within the CIS.

The meeting's agenda also includes topics on energy security, cooperation in the military sector, border security, and combating transnational crime.

One of the most significant agenda items for Belarus is a statement by the CIS heads of state on the upcoming 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident. The CIS countries will discuss their coordinated actions regarding this topic at a session of the UN General Assembly.

The meeting participants will also pay special attention to issues concerning the current activities of the CIS. Following the event, corresponding international documents are planned for adoption.
