Lukashenko to attend CIS summit in Kyrgyzstan

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko will pay a working visit to the Kyrgyz Republic on 12 October for a meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council in Bishkek on 13 October, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

The event will traditionally be held in narrow and expanded formats. The head of state will present Belarus' position and proposals on the most pressing issues of cooperation in the CIS.

It is expected that the leaders of the CIS countries will adopt a number of joint statements.

The institution of observer and partner status of the CIS is aimed at expanding the potential of the CIS and increasing its role in the international arena.

The leaders are set to introduce a number of amendments to the CIS legal acts and to discuss topical issues across a wide range of topics.

On the sidelines of the summit, the heads of state will discuss issues of bilateral cooperation.
