Lukashenko to attend CIS Games opening ceremony

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko will take part in the opening ceremony of the 2nd CIS Games which will be held in Minsk Arena on 5 August, BelTA has learned.

Belarus is hosting the 2nd CIS Games from 4 to 14 AugustThe venues of the Games are Minsk (rhythmic gymnastics, athletics, volleyball, modern pentathlon, shooting, beach football, 3x3 basketball), Brest (handball, swimming), Grodno (field hockey, weightlifting), Gomel (judo), Vitebsk (Thai boxing), Mogilev (archery, karate), Soligorsk (wrestling), Molodechno (beach volleyball), Orsha (boxing), Zhlobin (sambo).
Belarus is represented by 673 athletes at the home CIS Games. Russia has send the second largest delegation of 602 athletes. Uzbekistan is in third place in terms of the number of representatives. The format of the Games is open. It will feature not only athletes from the CIS member states but also from Venezuela, Pakistan, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Cuba, Egypt, Mongolia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Lebanon, Oman and other countries.
The 2nd CIS Games will feature a total of 246 medal events in 20 sports.
