Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko is holding a meeting with youth activists on 24 October, BelTA reports.

This meeting has a special symbolism: it is taking place in the run-up to the 105th anniversary of the Komsomol and the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Palace of Independence.

Among those invited were activists of the Belarusian Republican Pioneer Organization and the BRSM Youth Union, finalists of the Miss Belarus 2023 contest, and veterans of the Komsomol movement.

“A meeting of generations” - that's how its participants called the event. “We say ‘generations', because not only the BRSM Youth Union members gathered here. Our respected veterans and our successors, the future of the youth union - young pioneers - have come here too,” First Secretary of the BRSM Central Committee Aleksandr Lukyanov said.

The youth leader highlighted another symbolic thing about the meeting - it is taking place in the run-up to the 60th anniversary of the student brigade movement in Belarus. “Student brigades consisting of the BRSM Youth Union members also took part in the construction of the Palace of Independence,” he emphasized.

“You have said that the Palace of Independence is turning ten years old. Thanks for reminding me about that. I have simply lost sight of this fact. The idea was that the palace was to be designed and built solely by Belarusians,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.

The president himself was deeply involved in the construction of the Palace of Independence. At his suggestion, a winter garden was planted here. “I love nature. We must appreciate it. Therefore, I demand that we should maintain order in the country and keep it clean. And I asked to design a so-called winter garden here. When I announced that we would do everything on our own, a flurry of proposals arrived. There were a lot of proposals, but only one requirement from me: everything should be done from our materials,” said the head of state.

Upon the instruction of Aleksandr Lukashenko, the Palace of Independence has been running public tours for several years already. “The public should have the opportunity to see how our civil servants and the president work,” he added.

Speaking about the Komsomol movement, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that the Komsomol used to be a place to develop leadership skills. “It was truly a talent foundry,” the head of state emphasized.
