I dream of visiting Kamchatka, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with Governor of Russia’s Kamchatka Territory Vladimir Solodov in Minsk on 5 February, BelTA has learned.

During the meeting the parties discussed, among other things, the development of tourism. "Every traveler dreams of visiting Kamchatka. I do too," Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.

At the recent meeting in St. Petersburg, Aleksandr Lukashenko, in conversations with Vladimir Putin, mentioned Kamchatka as a very unique region. "I keep planning to travel to see this region. Vladimir Putin invites me all the time. He says that I need to see Altai and Kamchatka, and also Lake Baikal in order to feel the beauty of the Trans-Urals," the Belarusian president said. "If you don't mind, one day I will find time to visit your region," the president added addressing the governor.

Speaking about cooperation in tourism in general, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that at one time Russians and Belarusians were more interested in foreign trips, but now domestic tourism is growing. "Especially in Russia. I always say to Putin that if you want to see the most beautiful places, you don't have to go anywhere. Russia has everything you need," the Belarusian leader stressed. “Russia has all you need to relax and reconnect with nature. The Russians have finally understood that they need to holiday at home."

Holidays in Belarus remain popular among Russian citizens too. Last year alone, more than a million Russians visited the country. "I think that more can come. We will be happy to welcome more. They come to visit us not because Belarus has some unique places. It is because we treat Russians with the utmost respect. It is safe here for adults and for children. They also buy apartments here; our schools are in demand, especially among young people from Moscow," the head of state said.
