A meeting on Union State programs implemented using the Union State budget is being held in Minsk at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, chaired by State Secretary of the Union State Sergei Glazyev.

Representatives of ministries and agencies of the Republic of Belarus that are state customers for Union State programs and activities are invited to the meeting.

As State Secretary of the Union State Sergei Glazyev noted before the meeting, the Union scientific community is currently focusing on three programs in high-tech areas. These programs include electronic components in the automotive industry, which are designed to enhance the competitiveness and technical capabilities of the Union automobile industry; a photonics program, which aims to improve the quality of domestic instrumentation, including devices used in space exploration; and biotechnology research.

"We are discussing a wide range of issues related to the Strategy for Scientific and Technological Cooperation, which is currently being implemented in the Union State," said Sergei Glazyev. "The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, our main partner in this work, has the status of the leading scientific organization. We always rely on the NAS's expert opinion and are pleased that it is here that we monitor the implementation of our scientific and technical programs," the Union State Secretary emphasized.

In turn, Vladimir Karanik, head of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, expressed satisfaction with the results of joint work with his Russian colleagues. Regarding specific developments under the aforementioned programs, the Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences noted the following:

"While there are specific metal products that have already been launched into orbit for space research, microelectronics, and photonics, the Soyuz-Biomembrany program (a "Technological platform for identifying new molecular targets: membrane proteins and their complexes" – editor's note) will lead to significant advances in both medicine and other fields," Vladimir Karanik emphasized, adding that scientific research in the field of biotechnology will begin literally in the coming days.

According to him, more than twenty events dedicated to the most pressing issues of scientific and technical activity are planned for the future.
