Glazyev becomes new State Secretary of the Union State

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko met with Deputy State Secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia Sergei Glazyev on 17 April, the press service of the head of state reports.

The head of state spoke about the decision made by the leaders of the two countries regarding Sergey Glazyev replacing Dmitry Mezentsev as the State Secretary of the Union State. "We agreed with Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin that your contribution to the construction of the Union State should be significant. He holds you in high regard. You already know my opinion. Therefore, we have made this decision. As Dmitry Mezentsev's term in office is coming to an end and he is moving on to another job," said Alexander Lukashenko. "We have decided to appoint you as the leader and driving force of our union integration in terms of overseeing the entire apparatus of the Union State. I believe the outcome will be positive."

Russian statesman, Doctor of Economic Sciences, professor, and academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).
Biography
Born on January 1, 1961, in Zaporizhzhia.
In 1978, he enrolled in Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) in the Faculty of Chemistry, transferring to the Faculty of Economics a year later. In 1983, he graduated with honors from MSU with a degree in "Economic Cybernetics."
From 1991 to 1992, he served as the first deputy chairman of the Committee for Foreign Economic Relations of the Russian Federation and the first deputy minister of foreign economic relations.
From 1992 to 1993, he was the Minister of Foreign Economic Relations of the Russian Federation.
In 1994-1995, he was a deputy in the State Duma of the I convocation and chairman of the Committee on Economic Policy.
On August 14, 1996, he was appointed head of the Economic Security Department of the Security Council.
From 1996 to 1999, he served as the head of the Information and Analytical Department of the Federation Council.
From 2000 to 2003, he was a deputy in the State Duma of the III convocation, chairman of the Committee on Economic Policy and Entrepreneurship, and from November 2002, in the Committee on Credit Organizations and Financial Markets.
From 2004 to 2007, he was a deputy in the State Duma of the IV convocation.
In November 2008, he was appointed Deputy Secretary General of the Eurasian Economic Community, and on February 4, 2009, he was confirmed as the Secretary of the Commission of the Customs Union of Belarus, Russia, and Kazakhstan.
From July 30, 2012, to October 9, 2019, he was an advisor to the President of the Russian Federation, coordinating federal executive authorities' activities aimed at developing Eurasian integration within the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space of Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. He also represented the President in the National Financial Council.
In 2012, he was a trusted person of presidential candidate V.V. Putin.
Academic Work and Achievements
S.Y. Glazyev is the author of over 300 scientific publications.
In 1999, he was awarded the academic title of professor.
In 2000, he was elected a corresponding member of RAS, and in 2008, he became an academician of RAS.
Awards
- Order of Honor (February 5, 2024) — for significant contributions to the development of domestic science, long-term fruitful activity, and in connection with the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences. - Order of Friendship (February 2, 2011) — for significant contributions to the development of integration cooperation between states.
