Belarusians vote in favor of constitutional amendments

Belarusians have voted in favor of the constitutional amendments. The Central Election Commission (CEC) has published the preliminary results of the constitutional referendum, BelTA has learned.

 

“The total number of people on the electoral register is 6,815,667. Of them 78.63% went to the polls, that is, more than half of the citizens included in voting lists. Thus, the nationwide referendum was declared valid,” Chairman of the Central Election Commission Igor Karpenko said.

Some 65.16% of citizens who showed up at polling stations voted in favor of the constitutional amendments. Some 10.07% of voters did not support the proposal to amend the country's fundamental law.

Brest Oblast: 64.21% voted ‘for', 7.74% ‘against',

Vitebsk Oblast: 70.12% voted ‘for', 8.57% ‘against',

Gomel Oblast: 71.08% voted ‘for', 9.2% ‘against',

Grodno Oblast: 63.4% voted ‘for', 10.95% ‘against',

Minsk Oblast: 64.58% voted ‘for', 9.63% ‘against',

Mogilev Oblast: 71.69% voted ‘for', 10.4% ‘against',

Minsk: 55.13% voted ‘for', 13.23% ‘against'.

“These are preliminary results. I remind you that the CEC plans to hold a final press conference today at 10:00 a.m. On 3 March, the commission is set to convene and sum up the final outcomes of the referendum,” Igor Karpenko added.
