Russians purchased about four thousand metric tons of salmon roe during the New Year holidays in 2024, TASS said.

"According to expert estimates, Russians bought about 4,000 metric tons of salmon roe for the festive table during New Year holidays," the agency said.

Salmon roe purchases surged owing to the growing offer and the more affordable price, it noted.

The salmon catch season was among the most successful in the Far East last year, with 609,000 metric tons of fish caught, the agency informed. Salmon roe production moved up by 2.6 times in January - November 2023 to 23,200 metric tons.

According to flash statistical data, 347 metric tons of salmon roe were exported last year, while imports accounted for just 46 metric tons in 2023.
